Visiting Dignitary teachs students at USA Kung Fu Academy, Hyannis

October 7, 2010

HYANNIS, MA – Not often does the student get to work directly with the master, but that is exactly what is happening this Thursday and Friday from 5-8pm at USA Kung Fu Academy in Hyannis. Shaolin Monk Shi De Cheng will be visiting the Hyannis location to work with Kung Fu students in a training seminar.

The venerable Shi De Cheng, warrior monk from the Shaolin Temple in China and world famous Kung Fu master, hails from the world renowned ancient Shaolin Temple in China, where he lived and trained as a warrior monk for 22 years. After leaving the temple, he now travels the world spreading the benefits of Kung Fu training to select groups of students that he visits. He has been featured on the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, on the Ultimate Warrior tv show along with Fight Science.

USA Kung Fu Academies of Cape Cod, with locations in Hyannis, Mashpee and coming soon in Sagamore, are honored to host Shi De Cheng, as they have for the past 4-5 years on his annual visit. Sifu Eric Cruz, owner and founder of USA Kung Fu Academy Inc. will be present and available for comment at the studio.

The seminars will be divided into two days, the juniors Thursday, and the adults Friday. Although this event is not open to the public, people wishing to meet Shi De Cheng can call 508-771-2620 for more information.

Where Families Build Strength Together

Not only am I the mom of a Kung Fu student, but I am a Kung Fu student.  In fact, next Monday is my white sash test.

Last August my son earned his white sash, this August we'll see if I can earn mine.

I think many people are intimidated by martial arts in general.  I mean it's not like "going to the gym."  I can honestly say I never - NEVER - have had the desire to train, yet somehow here I am.  Although my interest bloomed out of my son's involvement, my interest is real and my intention is to make it a way of life.

Tonight when Charlie, my son, was giving me a hard time I casually dropped this threat, "Well, maybe I'll be the only one who does Kung Fu in this family" to which he responded, "oh no, I am not a quitter - I am never going to quit Kung Fu."

And that is what it has given us - something to rely on.  The world can shift on its axis, yet still there will be Kung Fu, Sifu Mike, and structure within the chaos of this tipsy turvy everyday world.

Little Ninjas Earn White Sashes

Mashpee, MA - Today was a big day for the Academy's first group of Little Ninjas. Testing day.  It wasn't easy but Emily, Tyler, Jaden, Jagger, and Andreas earned their white sashes after demonstrating their skills for Sifu Mike and Tai Si Hing Tim.  Charlie, who joined kung fu before the Little Ninjas program, tested with the class though he earned his white sash last August.

All between the ages of 4 and 7, each student - at one point or another - showed focus, physical ability, and knowledge - most adorably was Tyler's "The Way of the Natural and Spontaneous Fist."

Kung Fu means hard work (or accomplishment through effort) and these kids worked hard.  It paid off - they finished class with white sashes.

Sifu Mike reminded them this is the first of ten steps to black sash.  Good step.
